The Children of Mexico

The Children of Mexico is meant to showcase how children in Mexico differ from those in the United States. In Mexico, children are expected to work to help their families survive poverty. Labor laws work entirely differently, and oftentimes these children go missing.  Half a century ago, the biggest product that cartels created and sold was cocaine and many other drugs. Nowadays, the biggest product for them is human and child trafficking. The reason is that they do not have to grow it. Out of 150,000 children living in the streets of Mexico, approximately 50% are victims of trafficking for sexual purposes. The ever-growing rate of children in Mexico is increasing, how easy it is to kidnap a child, and, most importantly, the demand. About 70% of all human trafficking victims in the United States come from Mexico, and 50% of those individuals are minors.

My Goal

My goal is to showcase the complexity of the lives of children in Mexico and how they still find a way to maintain their childhood soul through a different path compared to children in the United States, and that also challenges my own biases on how children should be brought up and that the only way that exists to properly raise a child is through an American lens.
